Convention Etiquette 101: A Guide for Attendees and Cosplayers

So, you're heading to a con—awesome! Whether it’s your first time or you’ve been rocking the con scene for years, it’s good to brush up on the unspoken rules that make conventions fun, safe, and unforgettable for everyone.

From cosplay photos to crowded hallways, here’s your ultimate guide to convention etiquette—the friendly kind!

For All Attendees

1. Give People Space (Even If You're Excited!)

Yes, you just spotted your favorite voice actor—or that perfect cosplay—but take a breath and be mindful of others around you. Don’t shove, crowd, or hover too close. A little space = a lot of respect.

2. Always Ask Before Snapping a Pic

See an amazing costume? Want to snap a shot? Ask first! Most cosplayers love the attention, but nobody wants surprise photos when they’re mid-bite or fixing a costume malfunction. It’s polite to ask!

3. Keep It Moving!

Con halls get packed, fast. Try not to block aisles or doorways for long photos or group chats. Step to the side or find photo-friendly zones. Help the flow! :D

4. Be Cool to Staff & Volunteers

They’re working hard to keep everything running smoothly—so be patient, say thank you, and maybe throw in a compliment. Kindness is contagious (in the best way).

5. Smell Nice, Stay Healthy

Con crud is a real thing. Pack deodorant, shower daily, and wash those hands! It’s better for you and everyone you meet.

For Cosplayers

1. Cosplay Is Not Consent (Say It Again!)

Wearing an epic costume doesn’t mean people get to touch, grab, or invade your space. Respect goes both ways—cosplayers deserve it always.

2. Mind the Wings, Swords & Giant Props

We love your 8-foot foam axe, but try not to take out a crowd with it. Be aware of your surroundings and adjust if things get tight.

3. Water Is Your BFF

Cosplay is amazing—but also sweaty and exhausting. Take breaks, stay hydrated, and eat! You’ll look and feel even more fabulous.

4. Yes to Pics, No to Pressure

If you’re in the mood for photos—strike a pose! But if you need a break or someone says no to a pic with you, it’s all good. Everyone deserves boundaries.

5. Hype Each Other Up

See a cool cosplay? Say it! Help someone fix a prop? Do it! We’re all here for the love of fandom—spread that supportive energy like confetti.

Cons are all about community, creativity, and having the best time ever. A little courtesy and a lot of positive energy go a long way in making sure everyone walks away with great memories.
